It's not the flashiest playground on the North Shore, but for families with older kids who want space to move and something genuinely challenging to climb on, it's a very worthwhile stop.

Park plus playground

The playground sits within Bayswater Park, which is a generous stretch of open greenery — the kind where you can kick a ball, let the dog off the lead, or spread out a picnic blanket without feeling in anyone's way. The combination of a proper playground and that much surrounding space makes it feel like a complete outing rather than just a quick play stop.

Older kids first

One thing worth knowing before you go: the equipment here skews toward older children, roughly 7 years and up. Some of the structures — the monkey bars in particular — are quite high, which is exciting for kids who are ready for that kind of challenge, but less suitable for little ones who aren't there yet. If you've got a mixed-age group, be prepared for the younger ones to need a bit more supervision or entertainment on the side. We noticed that on our visits: our older kids had a great time, but the smaller ones needed more hand-holding around some of the equipment.

Facilities are fairly basic but functional. There's a single-cubicle toilet on-site, which is better than nothing, and street parking along Bayswater Avenue is usually available without too much stress. There's no dedicated car park, so timing your visit outside peak weekend hours is a safe bet. If you or your partner play tennis or squash, Belmont Park Racquets Club is an easy walk away — simple to build a longer outing around.
