Kennedy Park Playground

Castor Bay

Kenney Park Playground sits just a minute's drive north of Castor Bay Beach Reserve, and honestly — it deserves a lot more attention than it gets. First, the practicalities: there's dedicated parking on-site, which is always a win. But what really sets this place apart for families with little ones is how thoughtfully the toddler area has been designed. It's well-shaded, well-equipped, and if your kid is a sand enthusiast, the sandpit will keep them busy for a good while. The detail that genuinely impressed me though? The entire perimeter of the playground is laid with wooden decking — pram access here is about as smooth as it gets. No wrestling a stroller over wood chips or uneven ground. Just easy, stress-free navigation while your toddler does their thing. For older kids, the space is vast — almost surprisingly so — though the equipment doesn't quite keep pace with the real estate. The standout piece is a truly massive net climber (think giant spider web structure), and it's a good one, but beyond that, the older kids' section feels a little sparse for its size. A few more installations would go a long way. That said, the facilities here are solid: clean, well-maintained toilets, water fountains, and a generous open field right alongside the playground that's just begging for a picnic rug and an afternoon in the sun. And then there's the view. If you're used to beach parks where you're right at eye level with the water — this one's different. Kenney Park sits on elevated ground, and the panorama of the ocean stretching out below you is, frankly, breathtaking. It's the kind of view that makes you pause mid-sentence. Worth the visit on its own, before you even factor in the playground. TLDR) If you've got a toddler and you're someone who appreciates a genuinely stunning view, Kenney Park Playground belongs at the very top of your list. Don't sleep on this one.

Normanton Playground

Glenfield

Tucked into a quiet corner of Normanton Reserve, this playground turned out to be far more impressive than we expected. We visited with our kids and what first looked like a simple setup quickly revealed itself to be a place you can easily spend hours in. The reserve itself is a huge open grassy space, perfect for running around, kicking a ball, or just letting the kids burn off energy. There’s also a well-paved path running through the entire area, making it ideal for bikes, scooters, or anything with wheels. One of the standout features is the excellent shade coverage. Most of the playground is nicely sheltered, which makes a big difference on sunny days. Up at the top, there’s a long and surprisingly fast slide that feels like the highlight of the whole space. Just beside it, there’s a slightly elevated area with a small spider net and even more open space to explore and play. At first, we couldn’t spot any facilities, but it turns out there’s a water fountain and public toilets near the reserve entrance, just a short walk away. There are also picnic tables nearby, which made it easy for us to sit down and relax while the kids played. The equipment isn’t strictly toddler-focused, but it’s still very accessible for younger kids. Our little ones had no trouble finding things to enjoy. The most memorable piece was definitely the unique tire-seated spinner. It doesn’t just spin, it also swings back and forth, which makes it extra fun but also something to be a bit careful with if kids push it too hard. Even bigger kids would find it thrilling. The monkey bars are at a reasonable height too, slightly challenging but manageable even for early primary school kids. We’ve been to dozens of playgrounds, and this one genuinely stood out. On the way home, our kids were already asking when we could come back again, which probably says it all. Parking is easy enough with decent street parking nearby, and overall, it’s a spot we’d happily return to anytime.
