About this playground
Tucked into a quiet corner of Normanton Reserve, this playground turned out to be far more impressive than we expected. We visited with our kids and what first looked like a simple setup quickly revealed itself to be a place you can easily spend hours in. The reserve itself is a huge open grassy space, perfect for running around, kicking a ball, or just letting the kids burn off energy. There’s also a well-paved path running through the entire area, making it ideal for bikes, scooters, or anything with wheels. One of the standout features is the excellent shade coverage. Most of the playground is nicely sheltered, which makes a big difference on sunny days. Up at the top, there’s a long and surprisingly fast slide that feels like the highlight of the whole space. Just beside it, there’s a slightly elevated area with a small spider net and even more open space to explore and play. At first, we couldn’t spot any facilities, but it turns out there’s a water fountain and public toilets near the reserve entrance, just a short walk away. There are also picnic tables nearby, which made it easy for us to sit down and relax while the kids played. The equipment isn’t strictly toddler-focused, but it’s still very accessible for younger kids. Our little ones had no trouble finding things to enjoy. The most memorable piece was definitely the unique tire-seated spinner. It doesn’t just spin, it also swings back and forth, which makes it extra fun but also something to be a bit careful with if kids push it too hard. Even bigger kids would find it thrilling. The monkey bars are at a reasonable height too, slightly challenging but manageable even for early primary school kids. We’ve been to dozens of playgrounds, and this one genuinely stood out. On the way home, our kids were already asking when we could come back again, which probably says it all. Parking is easy enough with decent street parking nearby, and overall, it’s a spot we’d happily return to anytime.
