Lancelot Reserve Playground is one of those spots that takes a little finding, but once you're there, it has a charm that's hard to put your finger on. Tucked away near Glenfield Mall at the bottom of Lancelot Place, the reserve itself isn't large — and neither is the playground — but what's there is thoughtfully put together and well looked after.
What's on offer
The equipment covers more ground than the size of the space might suggest. There's a swing set with both a standard belt swing for older kids and a bucket toddler swing for the little ones, a vibrant double blue slide built into a small grassy slope that lets two kids race down side by side, and a solid wooden multi-level fort with a peaked roof, fireman's pole, vertical ladder, and a small tunnel. Monkey bars and a cargo net climber add to the mix, and a simple balance beam near the slide gives younger kids something to focus on. Several wooden posts with bright blue tops are scattered around — good for balancing or just clambering over. The whole play area sits on a wood chip surface, which is soft underfoot and adds to the natural feel of the space.

Trees and pathway
The surroundings are genuinely lovely. Mature trees and shrubs wrap around the playground, giving it a shaded, green feel that makes it comfortable even on warmer days. A paved pathway winds through the trees on one side — not long, but enough for a short, pleasant stroll while the kids play. It's one of those small details that lifts the experience beyond just standing around watching equipment.

Finding it
Getting there requires a little navigation. The reserve sits at the base of the Lancelot Place hill, and there's no dedicated car park, which can make the approach feel slightly awkward at first. That said, when we visited on a weekend we found street parking without too much trouble, so it's manageable — just allow a few extra minutes rather than expecting to pull straight up.
Quiet corners
One thing worth mentioning: despite being surrounded by residential homes, the playground tends to be fairly quiet and low on foot traffic. It's not an obvious or well-signposted destination, and it has the feel of a spot that not many people stumble across. That's part of its appeal in some ways, but it's worth being aware of — particularly if you're visiting with younger children and prefer a busier, more visible environment. It's not cause for concern, just something to factor in.

Overall, Lancelot Reserve is a quietly appealing little playground that punches above its weight given its size. Compact, well-kept, and set in a beautiful natural pocket of greenery — a nice find if you're in the Glenfield area and looking for somewhere a little off the beaten track.
