Tamahere Reserve Playground
Glenfield
About this playground
Tamahere Reserve Playground may be small, but its hilltop setting offers a surprisingly stunning view that makes it stand out. The equipment is thoughtfully selected, with some unique and creative features that add a sense of novelty, while still catering well to both toddlers and older kids. A highlight is the wooden jumping blocks, which bring a fun, active element beyond typical playground structures. Although amenities are limited, the peaceful, well-maintained setting and scenic outlook make it well worth a visit.

A view that stops you first
Tamahere Reserve Playground is not the biggest playground in the neighbourhood, but honestly it is one of the prettier ones. Perched on a hilltop at the end of Tamahere Drive, this compact little spot opens up to a sweeping view of distant ridgelines and rooftops that genuinely catches you off guard. It is the kind of view that makes you stop and take a breath before the kids even make it to the equipment.
On our northshoreplaygrounds site, we award a scenic badge to playgrounds with standout views — mostly coastal spots — but this is the first non-waterfront playground to earn one, and it absolutely deserves it.

Equipment, shade, and room to move
The equipment is not extensive, but what is here feels thoughtfully chosen. Rather than the usual collection of standard playground fare, there are some genuinely creative and unusual pieces that you do not tend to see elsewhere — worth coming for the novelty alone. Toddlers are well catered for with their own slide and two generous shade sails overhead, which do a solid job of keeping the sun off on warmer days. Older kids will find enough to keep them busy, and the wide open layout of the playground gives the whole place a spacious, uncluttered feel despite its modest size.

One of the unexpected highlights — and a personal favourite for kids who like to move — is a collection of wooden jumping blocks arranged throughout the space. If your child is anything like our son and has a soft spot for parkour, they will be in their element here. Our son has been absolutely obsessed with parkour lately, and he spent ages happily leaping from block to block here. It adds a fun, active dimension to the playground that goes beyond the usual climbing and sliding.

Visiting Tamahere
The whole playground is immaculately kept and feels very safe, sitting at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with an open, visible layout. Street parking along Tamahere Drive is comfortable and rarely an issue. There are no restrooms, no water fountain, and no picnic tables — worth noting if you are planning a longer visit — but there are plenty of benches dotted around, making it easy to sit back, relax, and take in that view while the kids play.
Honestly, the scenery alone makes this worth a visit. Pack a snack, grab a bench, and enjoy.
