A quiet neighbourhood, a surprisingly good playground
Harrowglen Drive Playground sits in the middle of a well-kept residential street in Northcross, and the surroundings set the tone immediately. It feels less like a public park and more like a thoughtfully tended garden that happens to have play equipment in it. The whole space is tidy, calm, and visually cohesive — timber-toned structures throughout, nothing flashy, but nothing worn out either. It's the kind of playground that makes you think someone actually cares about keeping it nice, and that counts for a lot.
The flying fox makes it
The clear highlight here is the flying fox. It's a proper one — long enough to build up real speed, and accessed via a ladder rather than a simple platform, which adds just enough of a launch ritual to make it feel like an event. Kids queue for it, which tells you everything. Right beside it is a small bumpy mini track, the kind that's perfectly sized for scooters and skateboards. If your kids arrive on wheels, this little circuit will keep them busy for longer than you'd expect. Together, the flying fox and the track give older kids a reason to stay engaged well beyond a quick once-over of the equipment.
Something for everyone
It's not all about speed though. Younger children have their own corner with a mini slide and wooden play blocks, so toddlers aren't left standing on the sidelines while older siblings have all the fun. The paved path that loops around the entire playground is a genuinely nice touch — smooth and wide enough for strollers, balance bikes, and scooters to move around freely without getting in anyone's way. Two picnic tables sit in a tidy arrangement nearby, well-positioned for keeping an eye on the kids while you eat.
Getting there
There's a parking spot right next to the playground, which is convenient on quieter days. On weekends it can fill up quickly, so street parking along the surrounding roads is your backup plan — the neighbourhood is pleasant enough that a short walk from the car is no hardship. All up, this is a gem of a local playground. Quiet, well-maintained, and genuinely fun. Worth the visit.
