Bayside Drive Reserve Playground
Browns Bay
About this playground
A small playground located in the quiet Bayside Drive Reserve. Most of the equipment is on the smaller side, and the playground itself is also quite small, but it is a clean, well-maintained space — best suited for toddlers and young children.
At a glance
- Fully paved paths running through the reserve — perfect for scooters, bikes, and prams
- Very quiet — even on a Sunday, we had the whole place essentially to ourselves
- No toilets, no water fountain, and no shade — come prepared
Small, simple, and honest
Bayside Drive Reserve Playground is small, simple, and makes absolutely no pretence of being otherwise — and that's completely fine. This is a toddler and young child playground through and through, and within that scope it does a genuinely good job.
Equipment
The equipment is modest but well chosen for its audience: two swings, a small slide, a spinning roundabout-style piece, and a hammock. Nothing elaborate, nothing that will challenge a school-age child for long — but for the littlest ones, it's just right. What stands out most is how clean and tidy the whole thing is. It has the feel of a place that's quietly but consistently looked after, which makes a real difference when you're letting toddlers roam around freely.

Paths, scooters, and prams
Older kids, admittedly, won't find a huge amount to do on the play equipment itself. But here's where the reserve reveals its unexpected bonus: the paths running through it are fully paved and wind pleasantly through the open space. Our kids had been asking to ride their scooters all morning, and this turned out to be an ideal spot to do exactly that. Wide enough, smooth enough, and quiet enough to let them go without constantly worrying about other people or traffic. If your kids are at the scooter or balance bike stage, bring them — this is genuinely one of the better spots we've found for that kind of riding practice. The paved paths would work just as well for a pram, too.

Peace and quiet
The most surprising thing about our visit was how completely peaceful it was. We arrived on a Sunday — typically the busiest day for most reserves — and had the entire place to ourselves. Not a soul around. For parents who find busy playgrounds a bit overwhelming, or who just want a calm, unhurried outing without the crowd, this kind of quiet is genuinely hard to find.

Before you go
A few things to note before you go: there are no toilets, no water fountain, and no shade over the playground area. It's a bring-your-own-everything situation on the facilities front, so pack accordingly — especially on warmer days. But as a relaxed, low-key outing for young children with a side of scooter time, Bayside Drive Reserve is a lovely little find.
