Taroka reserve Playground

Pinehill

About this playground

A small, simple playground in Taroka Reserve with basic equipment, best known for its wide open green space that’s ideal for running around or enjoying a relaxing picnic in a natural setting.

At a glance

  • Small but tidy and well-maintained neighbourhood reserve playground — quiet and safe residential setting
  • Better suited for older kids — toddlers and younger children are a bit limited, mainly the swings
  • Hilly terrain — not pram-friendly, and street parking can be tricky, especially on weekends
  • No toilets or water fountain — and no shade to speak of, so plan accordingly

Neighbourhood and playground

Taroka Reserve Playground isn't the kind of place you'd necessarily seek out on its own, but if you're in the Pinehill area — say, on the way to or from Pinehill School Playground — it's a perfectly pleasant stop. Head up Arirang Rise, follow it around to the circular loop of Taroka Close at the top of the hill, and you'll find the reserve sitting right there in the middle of a quiet residential neighbourhood.

The playground itself is compact but kept in good condition. It has that tidy, well-looked-after feel you often get in smaller neighbourhood reserves — nothing flashy, but nothing neglected either. The surrounding grassy area is on the narrower side given the hillside terrain, but it's open enough to feel airy and relaxed. Being nestled among houses gives the whole spot a safe, enclosed feel without being hemmed in.

For toddlers and very young children, options are a little limited. The swings are likely the highlight for the littlest ones, and beyond that there isn't a great deal geared specifically toward that age group. Older kids will find a bit more to work with, but this is probably more of a "quick stop" playground than a destination in its own right.

Things worth knowing

The hilly setting is both part of the charm and the one practical challenge. It's not the easiest place to navigate with a pram — the slope is noticeable, so if you're bringing a stroller, just be prepared for a bit of a workout. On the plus side, that same grassy hill opens up a fun idea: bring a small grass sledge and the slope looks absolutely made for it. I haven't tried it myself, but looking at that hill, I'm fairly confident it would work a treat — definitely one to file away for a future visit.

On the facilities front, there's not much to report — no toilets and no water fountain, so make sure you're stocked up before you arrive. Parking is street-only along Taroka Close and the surrounding roads; weekdays are generally fine, but on weekends the residential streets can fill up quickly, so arriving early helps.
